Enjoy these random and fun Mother's Day facts

Today is Mother's Day and a day to remember all the things big and small moms do for us day in and day out.

1 Back-in-the-day Mother's Day: In 250 B.C. ancient Romans celebrated a three-day spring festival, called Hilaria, dedicated to a mother goddess, Cybele. Her followers would make offerings at the temple, hold parades, play games and have masquerades.

2 Sorry, she's tied up: In the former Yugoslavia, children would tie up their moms on Mother's Day. Mom could get free only if she paid her children with treats.

3 Beautiful blooms: About one quarter of all flowers purchased throughout the year fall on this holiday. Carnations are especially popular.

4 Dial mom: About 122 million phone calls are made to moms in America on Mother's Day.

5 Mom starts with M: The vast majority of the world's languages have a word for mother that starts with the letter M.
