Troye Sivan Shares His Own #MeToo Moment: 'I Was So Naive About Everything'

Troye Sivan is just weeks away from releasing his sophomore effort, Bloom, but the road to this era of pop superstardom hasn't arrived without a glimpse at the dark side of the industry. In his new interview with The Sydney Morning Herald, the Aussie singer unveiled a private moment of sexual exploitation that echoes the values of the #MeToo movement.

"I was so naive about everything and about the industry," the 23-year-old singer said about coming in contact with a man who identified as a music manager during his YouTube beginnings. "I had no idea how to check if someone was legit or not. [He] promised the world to me and then as we got closer just completely inappropriately, you know, started ... everything changed all of a sudden. It was super weird." Sivan explained that the man took advantage of him over Skype, but he eventually informed his parents of his new "connection" and ceased contact with the individual. Later on, the singer ran into the man on the streets of Los Angeles. He admitted that others have made inquiries about the man and heard similar stories to his experience.

Sivan's upcoming North American "Bloom Tour" recently announced a team-up with The Ally Coalition in partnership with The Trevor Project, the world's largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization directed at LGBTQ youth. As per the announcement, any concert-goers who pledge to support LGBTQ+ causes will be entered to win a prize. Additionally, fans can sign up to volunteer at one of the tour stops ahead of time. Click here for more info!
