MN Girl Critical After Getting Hit By Car While Stepping Off School Bus

An 11-year-old girl is in a critical condition this weekend after she was hit by a potential drunken driver as she got off her school bus.

The girl exited her school bus at North 23rd and Penn avenues in north Minneapolis at 4:50 p.m. Friday when she was hit by a car as she tried to cross the road.

Witnesses performed CPR until paramedics arrived, and she is now in intensive care in critical condition.

The driver, a 60-year-old man, was stopped by police and was cooperative, though officers suspect he was under the influence of alcohol.

He told police that he didn't see the "stop" arm extended, and police will investigate whether the arm was out or not.

The suspect is being held on suspicion of criminal vehicular operation involving bodily harm.
