While it is still very early on in the investigation, police say the suspect's goal was not to kill Jayme Closs' parents.

According to USA TODAY, police say that Jake Patterson's goal was kidnapping Jayme, not killing her parents.

During a news conference on Friday evening, Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said a shotgun "consistent with the weapon that was used to kill Jayme's parents" was recovered. Other firearms were recovered during a search of the cabin where Jayme was held for 88 days.

Authorities have not yet revealed why Patterson targeted Jayme or how he became aware of where she lived.

Right now, police say there is no evidence found of any sort of social media communication between Jayme and Jake Patterson.

Patterson will make his first court appearance on Monday.
