Man Drops Ring Down Subway Grate at Moment of Proposal

A newly engaged British couple who managed to drop their engagement ring down a grate in New York's Times Square will be reunited with the diamond jewellery after a huge search effort by the NYPD.

John Drennan, 36, and his fiance Daniella Anthony, 34, who live in Peterborough were caught on camera frantically searching for the ring in Times Square on Friday night after it slipped off her finger and fell through a grate.

The distraught couple had asked nearby NYPD officers to help but they were unable to immediately locate the ring.

The NYPD later put a call out on social media asking for help locating the couple because officers had luckily managed to retrieve the engagement ring.

The relieved couple have now revealed they were in the city celebrating being together for ten years - when John popped the question in Central Park - but the ring was too big.

'I want to clarify that I did not propose over a grate in Times Square - that's where we lost it,' Mr Drennan said.

'We were walking back to the hotel. I can still visualise the ring. Bouncing once… bouncing twice and then it was gone.'
