(West St. Paul, MN) — Career criminal Brian Fitch, Sr is under arrest, accused of shooting and killing a Minnesota police officer. Fitch was shot and wounded yesterday after a dramatic manhunt. An unidentified woman with him was also shot and injured.
Mendota Heights police veteran Scott Patrick died instantly when he was shot in the head around noon yesterday during a traffic stop in West Saint Paul. Patrick was the first Mendota Heights police officer ever killed on the job and was the most senior member on the police force.
Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom says yesterday was one of the saddest days in his 26 years on the job. Governor Dayton and other Minnesota leaders have expressed their condolences to Patrick's family.
Patrick had been a member of the Mendota Heights Police force since 1995. He leaves behind a wife and two teenage children.
