Billboard has an exclusive stream of “PFC3: Songs Around the World.” The new album is the third in a series for the Playing for Change project and it features Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards and singer/songwriter Sara Bareilles among many others.
Songs Around the World co-founder, Mark Johnson, believes in the power music has to help make the world a better place. “When you combine different hearts, sounds and musical styles together you create something new, a better place,” he said. Music “transcends our differences and brings us to [a] place where we can feel more connected as a human race.”
Johnson travels with a mobile studio and cameras and films musicians in natural settings. Of working with Richards he said, “One day of the recording a storm came from out of nowhere and it rained like crazy all day until right before sunset. When Keith appeared by the beach the clouds literally parted from the sky, a fire pit started to burn and we were ready to record the legend.”
The idea to unite musicians from all over the world came from Johnson and Whitney Kroenke in 2005. The debut song, “Stand By Me” has over 60 million views on YouTube and includes 35 musicians from 10 countries.
"What's Going On" features musicians from Asia, Africa, Europe, South America and North America. The song, which is from their latest album, includes Sara Bareilles and you can check it out below:
The latest album will be available as an album and DVD on June 17. It will be available at all major retailers and at Starbucks in North America. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to The Playing For Change Foundation, which has helped over 700 children in nine different music schools in South Africa, Ghana, Mali, Rwanda, Nepal and Thailand.
