Raphael Saadiq will replace Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings as Saturday night’s headliner on the Church Stage at the 19th Annual Cities 97 Basilica Block Party.
Raphael Saadiq is a Grammy Award winning soul singer, songwriter and record producer who spent his early days with the soul trios Tony! Toni! Tone! and Lucy Pearl. He's released numerous critically acclaimed solo albums including 'Instant Vintage,' 'Ray Ray,' 'Stone Rollin' and 'The Way I See It,' which boasted four Billboard R&B chart singles and three Grammy Award nominations.
Saadiq is known for his powerful performances where he captivates crowds of thousands including a sold-out performance at LA’s Who Shot Rock & Roll event, where concertgoers were mesmerized by his 'bluesy' sounds. In 2011 Saadiq headlined a tour that boasted performances at Austin’s SXSW Music + Film Interactive Festival and Coachella Music and Arts Festival. The soul artist has also collaborated with well-known acts such as Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Mick Jagger, Jay-Z and Steven Tyler.
Given Sharon Jones’ health concerns announced June 3, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings have canceled their album release and 2013 tour, which formerly included a performance at this year’s Cities 97 Basilica Block Party.
