You wouldn't know it by the way the press is covering this year's MTV Video Music Awards but Miley Cyrus wasn't the only performer during Sunday's show and a few awards were actually given out. The most moving moments of the evening had nothing to do with twerking and have been completely overshadowed and overlooked so here's our attempt to remedy that.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis were nominated in a few different categories (most notably 'Video of the Year' + 'Best Hip-Hop Video') so it may seem strange to highlight what most would consider a second-tier award like 'Best Video with a Social Message' but we couldn't help but be moved by Ben's heartfelt acceptance speech when the duo won for 'Same Love':

"I'm going to be honest, I really wanted to win for 'Best Rap Video' but this Moonman right here stands for a lot more. I've been writing songs since I was 15 years old and out of every single song that I have ever written, to me, this is the most important record out of all of them."

The chills don't end there - The duo were joined on-stage by Mary Lambert and surprise guest Jennifer Hudson for an intimate performance of 'Same Love':
