Coldplay and Cat Power’s Chan Marshall have teamed up to create the dreamy duet “Wish I Was Here” which will be featured as the title track for Zach Braff’s film of the same name. The movie will hit theaters on July 18, but in the mean time, the ballad is available to stream here:

The track originally came together when Braff gave Coldplay’s Chris Martin an early cut of the film. Braff said, “Chris had the idea that it would be sung by a woman. I thought that was a genius idea, because one of the things the film is about is a strong woman (Kate Hudson’s character) becoming the matriarch of her family. When Chris and I were talking, we both kind of simultaneously said, ‘Cat Power’.”
After watching the film, Marshall agreed to add her vocals to the track, while Martin would add harmonies and Coldplay would help produce it. Braff has said that the song is his favorite track on the record, which also features music from Bon Iver, The Shins and Paul Simon among others.
“Showing my favorite artist my film, having them write a track that was inspired by their experience and then putting that art back into the film has been one of the most thrilling aspects of making Wish I Was Here,” Braff said.
The soundtrack is currently available for pre-order through iTunes and the movie’s website and will be out on July 15.
